Today the Washington Post’s front page had an article regarding fan mail to the Parkland shooting suspect, Nikolas Cruz, who is convicted of 17 accounts of murder in the state of Florida. According to authorities, he has received hundreds of fan letters, often adorned with encouraging messages of support and sometimes love. A few have even contained sexually suggestive pictures. The incident has been reported on before in other murder trials, such as that of Charles Manson and Ted Bundy. ‘Fans’ of Cruz have also donated approximately $800 dollars to commissary account in Cruz’s name (Rosenberg). However, according to the Sherifs Department, Cruz has not seen the letters or been informed of his commissary account, as he is on suicide watch. Lastly, according to the Washington Post, Florida persecutors are seeking the death penalty in Cruz’s trial, a legal action in the state that would accommodate the sentencing with death by electrocution. As Nikolas Cruz is 19, he will be tried as an adult.
